Surfing America Sign SnL Communications

Surfing America today announced SnL Communications as its public relations agency for the Surfing America USA Championships presented by SIMA in Huntington Beach, California, June 27-July 2, 2005. Top amateur surfers from Surfing America's five regional member organizations – Eastern Surfing Association (ESA), Hawaii Amateur Surfing Association (HASA), National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA), Texas Gulf Surfing Association (TGSA) and Western Surfing Association (WSA) – will face-off at the USA Championships for a chance to become a national champion and to represent the United States as part of the 2005 USA Surf Team. SnL Communications, who specializes in the action sports industry, will handle all pre-event, on-site and post-event media inquiries and coordination.

Go Skateboarding Day is June 21st, 2005

For one day, skateboarders take over the world! Imagine 20 million-plus skateboarders riding at the same time.

If skateboarders have their way, that will be the scene on the first day of summer: Go Skateboarding Day. Above all else, it’s a day for skateboarders to skate. It’s also an opportunity for those who’ve never been on a skateboard to grab a friend and join in.

Fox Hires Geoff Armstrong

Fox is proud to announce it has added surf industry veteran Geoff Armstrong to the family as its new East Coast Surf Marketing Manager.

Based out of a satellite office in New Smyrna Beach, FL, Geoff will work hand-in-hand with Fox’s Chris Drummy to continue to build and strengthen the brand’s presence in surf by scouting and managing new talent, as well as identifying and executing regional events and strategic grassroots promotional programs.

Polls Say Lords Fuels Skate Boost

Based on fresh research results conducted among thousands of young people between the ages 13-25-years-old across North America this past weekend June 3-5, 80.6% believe that the skateboarding movie “Lords of Dogtown” written by the legendary skater and Sundance Film Festival winner, Stacy Peralta, and directed by indie newcomer Catherine Hardwicke, is influencing more people to skateboard. 49.7% overall say that there’s been an increase in the number of skateboarders in their local area, compared with 35% who say it’s still about the same.
