Offers online service for action
sports jobs and designers, surf
marketing experts, and employers in the surf, skate, and snow equipment
and apparel industry. Boardsportjobs is brought to you in partnership
with the Surf Industry Manufactures Association (SIMA) and by Tom Pezman
& Associates -- a boutique executive search and personnel recruiting agency
founded in 1987. Tom and his associates have over twenty-five years experience
in employment and human resources consulting and more than fifteen years
professional experience in the industries that comprise Action Sports.
As a participant and as a lifestyle, board sports have been their family’s
life-long pastime as well as occupational endeavor. Initially approached
by the Surf Industry Manufactures Association to assist in the recruitment
of their executive director, Tom was subsequently asked to partner in
the building of a jobs message board for "lines looking for reps or reps
looking for lines". It was very clear that what was needed was a more
robust service that not only served sales representatives but addressed
the bigger issues of employment across the broad spectrum companies and
skills employed by the industry. BoardSportJobs.com is the outcome. |

| Building a resume, for many is the toughest
part of looking for a job is writing their resume. Numerous books have
been published on the subject. But, after twenty-five years of looking
at and helping to write resumes, here are some basics that I think work
for X
sports employment. Keep in mind that a resume is just the door opener;
the real work is networking to find and then prepare for the interview.
It is not always necessary to have an objective, but if you use one it
is very important to be succinct. Don’t beat around the bush. Don’t talk
about money. Don’t have more than one objective. If you have more than
one objective, you should have more than one resume! Do talk about position,
market, or company culture. Research the companies to whom you intend
to submit a resume and try to make your qualifications match their requirements.
If you’re submitting to more than one job, this too may take more than
one resume. Try to make a keyword list, or list of key phrases to articulate
your skills. For example, if you’re an accountant, what type of spreadsheet
software do you know that they use. |
